Emmanuel Thanassoulis

Emmanuel Thanassoulis is Professor in Management Sciences at Aston Business School, Aston University, Birmingham, UK. He has an extensive research track record, applications and teaching experience in comparative-efficiency assessment methods, especially those based on Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). He has over 60 refereed academic publications in the area. He has also authored Introduction to the Theory and Application of Data Envelopment Analysis: A foundation text with integrated software. (2001, Kluwer Academic Publishers, Boston), and more recently Thanassoulis et al. (2007) DEA – The Mathematical Programming Approach to Efficiency Analysis, in The Measurement of Productive Efficiency and Productivity Growth, (Hal Fried, Knox Lovell and Shelton Schmidt editors, Oxford University Press).
He has developed DEA Software and has acted as consultant on DEA to a variety of organisations, including The Department for Education and Skills, The Department for Communities and Local Government, the Home Office, HM Treasury, the Audit Commission, OFWAT, Transco and Severn Trent Water. He runs bespoke training courses on the methods of efficiency and productivity analysis. He has acted for many years as Joint Editor of the Journal of Productivity Analysis and is on the Editorial Board of the European Journal of Operational Research, both key journals for learned publications in the field of efficiency and productivity analysis.
